 The Location
To the east is the historic port of Lagos with its Roman walls still largely intact, today a cosmopolitan town where you can wander through a maze of winding cobbled streets with antique and art shops, pavement restaurants, cafe bars and vibrant nightlife.
Out to the west lies Sagres and the spectacular headland of Cape St Vincent, the most south-westerly point in continental Europe. It is known as O Fim Do Mundo or "the end of the world", by the ancient mariners who passed that way, on their voyages of exploration and discovery.
The picturesque village of Salema is tucked away in the fold of a narrow valley, snuggled beside the ocean and a sandy beach. Much of its traditional charm still remains. Along the beach fishermen mend their nets and pots beside colourful boats, as they have done long before tourists ever visited. Salema boasts a handful of shops, bars and not surprisingly fabulous seafood restaurants huddled amongst whitewashed fishermen’s cottages.
